The reason i ask this is because we have just stalled dead in the water. We have no idea of were our future is. Stalled on the stadium. Stalled on the team. Stalled on the right guy to take us forward.Stalled on the support. The only thing i can see is clear is the fact that the board has sold its shares in the ICF you no the other team in pink and pale blue. What are we doing and were is our real direction? A couple of years ago i new but now i have not got a clue what our board thinks. And they wonder were the support has gone? Complete lack of direction and if we have no direction how can we follow? :banghead: |

Our future lies in the premiership; they tried to build a new stadium but were rejected by the council last year; they believe (rightly so in my opinion) that SB is the man to get us back up; they have backed SB in bringing in new exciting players with potential. And you say they have no direction????? |

i believe the direction they want us to go is clear, achieving the target is proving to be very difficult and will remain so. we have no divine right to promotion/prem/cup we have no route other than hard work and ability. they will put in what money is prudent imo, don't expect them to put in their own money which in all probability is tied up in long-term investments. after they leave, we want bcfc to carry on debt free and on a sound business footing - it's all geared to that now and only on solid foundations can you build something lasting... **thumbup |

I think stalled dead in the water is a bit strong but I would like to know what the board intends to about the main stand. You can stick your fantabulous, pie in the sky, Nechells Dome as far as I'm concerned. Just rebuild the main stand as they said they wre originally going to. 35-36,000 is plenty big enough for us. There's just no point to this stadium, all we'd ever get in it is Rod Stewart and a couple of England under 21 games. There's no way that anything decent is going to be played anywhere other than Wembley now. They've already got the contract for the England games and all cup finals and semi-finals till hel freezes over. |

yeah its hard for those who dont look at every angle of the club to see where we are going, Blues have been looking for a strong postition in the prem and are hoping to do so next season, then from there the clubs direction will change wont it? |

I think the Club's one and only strategy now is 'hope'. Last January the 'hope' was that we wouldn't get relegated. We did very little about it except blame referees and Portsmouth FC. This January the 'hope' is that we get promotion. At the moment it doesn't look like we're going to 'make it happen'. If we do nothing then we may finish top two or finish in the play-off places. If we wanted to finish top two then we'd enter the transfer market this January and 'make it happen'. The next few weeks will decide if we go into the second half of the season with 'hope' or 'intent'. In the summer I remember reading on another forum a post that said Stans perfectly reflects the Boards ambitions. Started off with energy and good intent it's only 75% complete. For me the good old Main Stand, home to Jacko for a number of years, reflects the strategy of 'hope'. We 'hope' it won't fall down. We 'hope' someone else, the Council for instance, will come along and take care of it for us. It's not going to happen. DS has been here long enough to know that the City Council, no matter what Political colour, has no real desire to help BCFC. It's time for the Club to fish out the approved planning consent; call in the builders and 'make it happen'. Jackoblue |

The way I see it is that our squad is EASILY capable of getting promoted to the Prem. So, don't spend any money in January, save it. If come May we are not promoted there will be more summer funds for (probably) the new manager, if we are promoted there are more funds to bolster the squad for the Prem. |

i'd differ from that view about january to be honest, provided decent players were available of prem quality. don't forget, on promotion you get handed something like £50m next season so i think we should go "balls out" in jan for the right players.... having said that, i don't the owners will splash out regardless of where we are.. <_< |

I would take issue with two of those points : "their own money is probably tied up in long term investments"... to suppose that people worth almost £1bn can't raise ten of millions in cash is very unlikely... for example, they could divest some of those investments... the idea that they don't invest because they don't have the cash doesn't stack up... it is the will that is lacking rather than the means "we want bcfc to carry on debt free and on a sound business footing" none of which precludes the owners investing in the club... a business which seeks to merely balance the books year in year out is never going to progress and is likely to stagnate.. long term financial viability can be consistent with growth, ambition and investment.. |

take issue all you like - as with the rest of us they'll invest what/when they deem fit...and also like most of us they'll keep there hands firmly in their pockets. i'm not saying i wouldn't like them to spend their dosh, i just don't see why we should expect them to when 8-10 thousand fans have turned their backs on the club after relegation.. |

I can see the reason for the original post. If you compare the feeling of expectancy just after the play-off final with the overlying concern that fans have now, you can see why some statement of intent from the Board might not go amiss. Back then we were about to embark upon a Premiership campaign with a bright young managerial team, backed by the funds of an ambitious Board, who had said quite clearly that they aimed to make Birmingham the top club in the City. There was talk of redevelopment of the ground, or even a new stadium, and the prospect of a having a team fit to grace it. The fans climbed on board and St Andrew's was a cauldron of passion. This season it looks like we could reach the top level once more. But with the best will in the world, it doesn't quite feel the same, does it? Even if Steve Bruce won every game from now until the end of the season, there would still be doubts that he could do it in the top flight. And would the Board make the funds available? They didn't when they were most needed - last season. Would they again? And I think it is legitimate to ask about ground redevelopment. They asked for our support when they were looking to build the COB Stadium. We responded in our thousands with petitions and emails. Since that project looks dead in the water, not a thing has been said about some sort of alternative plan. And when the team went through that run of successive defeats, who was blamed? The fans! Little wonder that there is an uneasy relationship at the moment. But lets put all that behind us. And the best way to start is a clear, concise and unambiguous statement from the Board. Lets hear what there ambitions are - and more importantly how they plan to achieve them. What are their hopes and dreams for the club? At the moment they appear to be dispassionate and uninvolved. It's time to recapture some of the hope that we had in the past. The Board need to make the first move. |

It's this sort of 'we are ok, let's keep our hands in our pocket' logic that contributed to us getting relegated. We did nothing last January - respect to DJ but he was a gamble - Portsmouth went for it and now look at us both. There is cash there to spend, millions of pounds, and from a reliable source I'm told that Bruce wants Nugent but the board won't make an offer because they want to get up on the cheap. If we don't strengthen in January we might as well all give up. |
